An exhibition experience at We the Curious in Bristol - a multidisciplinary exploration of people’s questions through science, art and culture.

We collected over 10,000 questions from all postcode areas of Bristol, and shortlisted them with community groups down to a handful that we then designed exhibits and experiences to explore. Each multidisciplinary ‘question constellation’ explores a chosen question through art and science, and opens up where science is working at the edge of the unknown, inspiring visitors to ask more questions and spark their curiosity.

In the centre of the space, The Theatre of Curiosity is where you can go to leave your own question, and read other people’s questions…which feed the ongoing programme at We the Curious. And there’s an Open City Lab, where visitors can participate in contemporary science research alongside scientists.

With 25 art installations, largely commissions for Bristol based artists and film makers, Project What If is also the largest permanent exhibition of Bristol artists in the city, including Luke Jerram, Chomko and Rosier, Anagram, Vilk, Duncan Speakman and Sleepdogs, Jess Siggers, Limbic, Much Maligned Collective, Jump Studios, ShamPhat, Coral Manton, Stefan Goodchild, Creative Youth Network and all the community artists and exhibit teams from Avonmouth, Knowle West, Barton Hill and Southmead. Beyond Bristol we were also proud to feature work from Martens and Visser and Greg Dunn and an original commission from Troika, as the entrance experience to the whole exhibition.

I developed and led this project as Creative Director at We the Curious, and Project What If was created and brought to life with so many amazing partners and collaborators - which began with the question askers in the old At-Bristol exhibition, the brilliant and tenacious We the Curious team, and director Ellen Schindler introducing me to the dream team at Kossmann de Jong, with Michel de Vaan as our lead designer.
